About
Md Rajibul Islam
I am Md. Rajibul Islam, an early-career researcher from Bangladesh, passionately working at the intersection of remote sensing, photogrammetry, and GIS technologies. With a background in Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Management, I gradually transitioned into the world of spatial analysis, motivated by a decade, long journey that began not in a lab, but behind a camera lens.
What started as a love for photography grew into a fascination with image-based spatial storytelling. During my undergraduate years, I discovered that satellite images could capture ecological changes in much the same way my camera captured moments — only on a far broader scale. This realization led me to remote sensing, where I now work with tools like Google Earth Engine (GEE) and UAV photogrammetry to study land use change, wetland degradation, and ecosystem dynamics.
One of the most transformative moments in my academic career came when I applied drone technology—originally purchased for photography—to a collaborative project with the Bangladesh Water Development Board, mapping river sections for discharge modeling. That experience, blending fieldwork, drone imagery, and environmental analysis, solidified my calling: to harness geospatial technology for public good.
